Library

Before

Conversion was needed for this bedroom, it being outdated and no longer fit for purpose

After

With difficulties in the practicality of some design elements overcome:

The finished Library is a calm and refreshing room, designed for comfort and peace

Wall Artwork

As this was a project for a Family member, I allowed myself the liberty of including artwork from other artist. All within the keeping of the library theme.

Left to Right:

Mr. Tumnus from C. S. Lewis' series - The Chronicles of Narnia

Wall Artwork Artists

The Outskirts of Mirkwood from J. R. R. Tolkien's - The Hobbit

Tintin and Illustration from ‎Hergé's - The Adventures of Tintin

Chair

A comfortable tub chair with a pillow depicting a Red Squirrel reflects a sentiment within this family.
Bedtime stories in this room often involved this invented character.

Cupboard Storage

As a working room for a private tutor it was important to cater for the ability to store teaching supplies.

In order to keep the balance of the room, this cupboard was included.

Hidden Space

A slide out additional storage space has been included in such a way that you do not lose the aesthetic of the library face.

This was done in all attempts to keep both aesthetic and practical value.

Library Face

Shelves have been designed to account for variety of differently sized books.

Small details from trinkets and hints at other fictional childhood books were included when thinking of this design.

Futon

The stark colour of the pillows on the futon mirror that of the Red squirrel on the chair.

A nod to another fiction has been added depicted in the blue pillow, a well known image from Douglas Adams' - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Towel & Sink

The purple towel has been placed to balance out other colours within the room.

Quote

C.S. Lewis' Quote was hand painted by myself.

This was done in order to allow this wall to still be simplistic and not over bearing whilst giving some extra character to the room itself.

Clock & Hanger

Often times simple is better.

A basic clock and Treble Clef Coat hanger simply add to the rooms small details.

Bluebell Wood

A slightly late addition of this image from the blue bell forest path in Coton, Northamptonshire continues to encourage the calming nature of the rooms design.
